Late former Law Society president's son wins Supreme Court bid to pursue abuse case
The Supreme Court has green-lit a trial for historical sexual assault claims levelled by a son at his late father, a one-time president of the Law Society of Ireland.
Delivering its judgment on Thursday, the court affirmed a Court of Appeal decision from last year. The accused, Walter Beatty snr, was a former partner in the practice Vincent and Beatty and also invested in hotels. He passed away in 2024.
The ruling clears the path for the allegations to be examined in open court even though the man against whom they are directed is no longer alive.
