Man detained after €2.94m cannabis seizure at Rosslare Europort

Revenue officers seized almost €3 million worth of suspected cannabis at Rosslare Europort on Thursday, 4 June, irishmirror.ie reports. A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested and is being held at a Garda station in Co Wexford under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The haul comprised approximately 145kg of suspected herbal cannabis and 7.9kg of suspected cannabis resin, with a combined estimated value of more than €2.94 million.

Officers stopped and searched an accompanied freight unit that had disembarked from a ferry arriving from Dunkirk, France. The vehicle was selected for examination as part of routine profiling operations. A search assisted by Revenue's mobile x-ray scanner uncovered the drugs concealed within the load.

Revenue said the operation forms part of its continuing efforts to target organised crime groups involved in the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs. Investigations are ongoing.
