Missing Dublin pensioner feared murdered in Liberties flat, Polish man arrested

Gardaí have sealed off a flat in Dublin's Liberties area amid fears a 65-year-old man from Limerick was killed there five weeks ago. A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the case.

Gardaí have cordoned off an apartment in the Liberties area of south central Dublin following fears that a missing pensioner was murdered on the premises before his body was removed, irishmirror.ie reports.

The man, aged 65 and originally from Limerick, had been living in Dublin city centre. He was last seen approximately five weeks ago. His family, based in Limerick, grew concerned for his welfare in recent days and contacted gardaí on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.

Detectives at Kevin Street Garda Station are investigating all circumstances surrounding his disappearance. One line of inquiry being examined is that the man was stabbed to death at the sealed-off property.

As a result of that investigation, a Polish national in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the Dublin city area.

An Garda Síochána confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday evening: "Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances around the disappearance of a male (aged in his 60's) who was reported missing from the Dublin 8 Area, on Sunday 26th July 2026. As a result of ongoing enquiries, a male (aged in his 20's) has been arrested in connection with the investigation today, Tuesday 28th July 2026. Investigations ongoing. An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time."

Gardaí said they are also continuing efforts to locate the missing man, though investigators suspect he has been killed. The property in the Liberties remains sealed off as the inquiry continues.
