A homicide investigation is under way in Killarney after a 43-year-old woman from the United States was discovered dead inside her house on Muckross Road.

The victim, identified as Jamey Carney, was found with significant injuries in her bedroom on the afternoon of 7 July 2026. Her teenage daughter became concerned for her welfare and alerted a family friend shortly after 1pm. That friend reached out to an acquaintance, who then contacted the authorities. Emergency responders arrived at the property but were unable to save Ms Carney.

State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan has completed an autopsy. The results are being kept confidential for operational reasons.

The dwelling remains cordoned off as forensic specialists carry out their work. A senior officer is leading the inquiry from an incident room established at the local Garda station.

Ms Carney, a New York native with Irish heritage, relocated to the town half a decade ago following a holiday. She and her 13-year-old child moved permanently in 2021. Neighbours remembered her as a dedicated parent who was kind and industrious. She participated in community athletics and advocated for Palestinian causes.

Law enforcement wishes to speak with a male acquaintance of the deceased in connection with the fatality. He is thought to be between 28 and 32 years old. Reports indicate a dispute took place at the address on the evening prior to the discovery.

Border crossings have been put on notice due to fears the individual may try to exit the jurisdiction. Authorities in the North have also been informed.

Detectives are asking anyone in the vicinity of Muckross Road between 11pm on 6 July and 5am on 7 July to provide any camera recordings they may have. Information can be given to Killarney Garda Station at 064 667 1160, via the confidential line at 1800 666 111, or at any station nationwide.
