Four individuals have been brought before the courts after gardaí uncovered cannabis with an estimated street value exceeding €5 million hidden among imported household goods.

The haul, weighing 255kg, was detected inside a shipment of coffee tables that originated in Toronto. Officers from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau arranged a monitored drop-off at a premises on Carndonagh Road in Donaghmede, Dublin 13.

Those charged include a 61-year-old construction business owner, his 51-year-old firm secretary, a 43-year-old tradesman, and a 27-year-old man. They face allegations of both possession of the controlled drug and possession with intent to supply.

During the sting, a garda car was struck by a vehicle. The four defendants were subsequently taken into custody.

At a hearing before the district court, the presiding judge released the men on bail against cash sureties ranging from €3,000 to €7,000. The accused, who reside in various northside suburbs, were returned to detention but may secure their release by meeting the financial conditions.

Their bail terms include handing over passports, avoiding communication with co-accused, and presenting themselves at designated garda stations on a routine basis. They are scheduled to appear again at Cloverhill District Court later this week.
