A member of An Garda Síochána currently suspended from duty has been directed to stand trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court facing allegations of burglary, assault, property damage and sending an offensive image.

A member of An Garda Síochána attached to Letterkenny station, presently suspended from active duty, has been directed to stand trial at the local circuit court facing five criminal counts.

Alan O'Mahony appeared before Letterkenny District Court, where Judge Emile Daly ruled that the matter should proceed to the higher court. The prosecution's evidence dossier had already been delivered to the defendant, who attended the hearing but remained silent throughout.

The alleged offences date back to 30 June 2024 at a property in Wood Park, Lismonaghan, in the Donegal town. Investigators claim O'Mahony unlawfully entered the premises intending to commit a serious crime. He is further accused of destroying a duvet by setting it alight with a cigarette.

Additional charges state that he attacked Joseph O'Donnell and broke the handle of a residential entrance door. Separately, he allegedly distributed a photograph of an identified woman to a third party in a manner considered deeply offensive.

State prosecutors indicated that the Director of Public Prosecutions approved elevating the case to circuit court jurisdiction. The defence chose not to advance the matter through a signed plea procedure.

Bail was extended on strict terms: the defendant must live at a specified address and refrain from any interaction — whether direct or indirect — with the complainant or anyone listed as a witness.
