Man dies in Dublin garda cell, police ombudsman Fiosrú opens probe

A man in his 30s died after becoming unresponsive in a Dublin garda station cell. Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has launched an investigation.

Death in garda custody prompts ombudsman inquiry in Dublin

RTÉ News reports that Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has confirmed it is investigating the death of a man who died while in garda custody on Friday evening.

The man, aged in his 30s, became unresponsive in a cell at a Dublin garda station. Garda members attempted resuscitation, followed by medical personnel and first responders. He was subsequently pronounced dead, and the coroner has been notified.

Fiosrú said it received a referral from An Garda Síochána in line with standard garda policy, and that a call team of investigators attended the scene.

The ombudsman's office declined to comment further, citing the active investigation.
