A 23-year-old from Limerick was disqualified from driving for a year and fined €300 after testing positive for cannabis when stopped by gardaí.

A 23-year-old from Limerick has received a one-year driving ban and a €300 penalty after being found operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

Jack Doyle, who resides on St. Brendan's Street in St. Mary's Park, appeared at Limerick District Court. Due to an ongoing industrial action by solicitors that has withdrawn legal aid services, Doyle chose to represent himself rather than postpone his hearing until free representation becomes available again.

According to the prosecution, led by Sergeant Denis Waters, gardaí pulled Doyle over at the Grotto on St. Ita's Street on 27 August 2024. A specimen taken from him tested positive for cannabis.

Judge Patricia Harney convicted Doyle and imposed the disqualification and fine. When the judge offered to delay the driving ban to a later date, Doyle declined, saying he wanted to "get it over with."
