A 26-year-old resident of Shanagarry, Co Cork has been brought before Midleton District Court accused of nine separate offences that allegedly took place on 27 October 2025. BreakingNews.ie

Joshua Allen, whose address is given as Ballinamona in the east Cork village, is alleged to have driven a red Ford Transit van at a member of the force after failing to halt at a checkpoint on the R629 at Monagurra. Prosecutors say the officer had to move quickly to avoid being hit.

Court documents also indicate Allen operated the vehicle while impaired by cocaine and cannabis on the R632 in Shanagarry South. At the same location, he is said to have attacked a garda, unlawfully held ketamine, and carried a blade with a sharp point.

Additional counts include resisting arrest, causing injury to a second officer, and further counts of reckless driving in both Shanagarry South and Shanagarry North.

The hearing was put back until 17 September after Allen's representatives asked for more time. The judge agreed to the postponement, citing the current dispute over criminal legal aid fees that has led solicitors to step away from cases. Allen was granted bail and will return to court next month.
