Jurors are set to resume their discussions in the case of a man charged with murdering a postal worker in County Cork more than five years ago.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murdering 55-year-old Timothy "Timmy" Hourihane at a property on the Boreenmanna Road in Cork city on 13 October 2019. The victim, a father of one, had worked as a postman.

According to the Irish Independent, the defendant is also charged with assault causing harm to another man on the same night. He has pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The trial, which has been heard at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork, has now moved to the deliberation phase. The jury had been considering its verdict and is expected to continue doing so.

Mr Hourihane was found with fatal injuries at the property in the early hours of the morning. The prosecution has presented evidence about the circumstances surrounding his death, while the defence has contested the murder charge.

The case has drawn significant attention in the Cork area, where Mr Hourihane was a well-known figure in his community through his work delivering post.
