Irish police hunt Jordanian man after American woman found murdered in Kerry
American woman Jamey Carney was discovered dead in her rented home in Killarney, County Kerry, on Tuesday. Her thirteen-year-old daughter found the body and alerted a family friend. A post-mortem revealed Carney died by suffocation after suffering severe head injuries during a brutal assault.
Irish police are now searching for Carney's partner, twenty-eight-year-old Jordanian national Ahmad Al-Saqar. The couple had met approximately a year and a half ago at a pro-Palestinian demonstration. In the days before her death, Carney had shared photos of the couple on social media, describing their relationship as happy.
According to Irish police, Al-Saqar was at Carney's home on Monday evening and left the country before the body was discovered. He departed by bus from Killarney to Dublin around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, then flew to Istanbul shortly before 11 a.m. — roughly an hour before police issued a public appeal regarding his movements.
Investigators are examining reports from neighbors who heard a loud argument at the house on Monday evening, just hours before the killing. Police are now working with Interpol, Europol, and Turkish authorities. They acknowledge Al-Saqar may have already traveled to his native Jordan, which has no extradition treaty with Ireland.
Irish police have described Al-Saqar as a key person for their investigation and are seeking to question him. No charges have been filed against him so far. According to the Irish Mirror, his asylum application had been rejected and he was awaiting an appeal decision at the time of the murder, meaning he still possessed his travel passport.
