Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the disappearance of a 65-year-old man from Dublin 8, BreakingNews.ie reports. Investigators say they fear the missing man has come to serious harm.
The older man has not been seen at his home for the past five weeks. His family first appealed for information on his whereabouts via social media before formally reporting him missing to gardaí at Kevin Street station on Sunday.
In their appeal, relatives said they had already checked hospitals and garda stations without result. They described him as a father of a number of children whose brothers, sisters and extended family are deeply worried about him.
Following the opening of a criminal investigation, gardaí arrested the suspect on Tuesday. The man, believed to be of eastern European origin, is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which permits detention for questioning of up to 24 hours.
