A 29-year-old defendant will stand trial at Trim Circuit Court following accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman somewhere in County Meath during 2024.

During a preliminary hearing at the lower court, prosecutors indicated that the DPP had approved proceeding on the basis that the accused had submitted a written admission of guilt. Presiding judge Derek Cooney reminded the defendant that any alibi claim must be formally declared to prosecutors within the statutory window. He also ruled that the defence must receive all recorded interviews and any surveillance video that exists.

Additionally, Cooney pointed out that the accused could switch lawyers if an ongoing professional disagreement made that necessary, leaving the choice entirely to him. The case was then committed to the higher court for full trial.
