Dublin suburb rocked by fatal shooting
Gunfire claimed the life of a middle-aged man in Dún Laoghaire on Sunday morning, prompting a major garda investigation.
The victim, believed to be in his forties, sustained deadly injuries shortly after 8:30am on 5 July 2026 at Patrician Park along Kill Avenue. The Irish Times reported that detectives are treating the case as a homicide.
His remains stayed at the location while crime-scene specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau carried out their work. Officials notified the coroner, and an autopsy was expected to follow.
Traffic restrictions hit Kill Avenue and Glenageary Road Upper, with authorities redirecting vehicles away from the affected zone.
A senior officer took charge of the inquiry, supported by a newly created incident room at the local garda station in Dún Laoghaire.
Investigators asked anyone who noticed unusual activity near the park around the time of the killing, or who captured relevant footage between 8am and 9am, to come forward. Information can be given to Dún Laoghaire station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any police station nationwide.
