A 32-year-old man from Sudan has been detained after a man died following an incident at a Belfast apartment.

A 32-year-old originally from Sudan has been placed in custody following the death of another individual inside a flat in Belfast.

Isaac Koko, residing on Cromwell Road in the city's south, made his initial appearance at the local magistrates court midweek. He stands accused of taking the life of Ahmed Abdi.

The case began when law enforcement received a tip regarding possible danger to someone within the building. Upon arrival, they encountered Mr Abdi hurt. Medical personnel rushed him to a healthcare facility, though he did not survive.

Over a 48-hour period, investigators conducted multiple interrogations with the suspect. A senior detective testified that throughout these sessions, Koko refused to accept guilt and asserted his actions were protective in nature. He further informed authorities that alcohol consumption had been significant on both sides.

At the hearing, Koko limited his verbal participation to identifying himself and acknowledging the charge. Legal representatives did not seek his temporary release. The judge ruled he should stay imprisoned, with a further hearing set approximately four weeks later.
