Police in Limerick have detained a man following an alleged blade assault on a youth in the city centre.

Officers in Limerick have taken a male in his thirties into custody following an incident in which a youth was reportedly struck with a blade on a central thoroughfare.

The encounter happened on Parnell Street at roughly a quarter to six on the evening of Friday 12 June, while it was still light outside. The adolescent was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Authorities stated at the time that the harm sustained was not considered critical.

On the morning of Wednesday 1 July, law enforcement confirmed that a suspect had been picked up. He is being interviewed under provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the county.

The probe continues.
