€4 million cocaine seized in Wexford and Kildare; three arrested

Gardaí have seized 58kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of more than €4 million following searches at properties in counties Wexford and Kildare, irishtimes.com reports.

Two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, and a woman in her 40s were arrested on Wednesday as part of an "intelligence-led" operation targeting an organised crime group.

Members of the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service conducted the searches, which covered a business premises in Co Kildare and a residential property in Co Wexford. Garda personnel from the eastern region provided additional support.

The three were detained under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 in connection with facilitating and enhancing drug trafficking activities for an organised crime group. They are currently being held at Garda stations in Kildare and Dublin under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

"The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing," An Garda Síochána said in a statement.

The operation was carried out under Operation Tara, a nationwide anti-drugs initiative launched during the Covid-19 pandemic. The operation targets drug-trafficking networks at all levels — international, national and local — involved in the importation, distribution, production and supply of controlled drugs, according to the Garda.
