Police in Northern Ireland have detained a 41-year-old male following a violent assault at a motorcycle gathering in Carrickfergus.

The incident unfolded on Rodgers Quay shortly after half past seven on Wednesday evening. The injured party suffered puncture wounds to the upper body as well as trauma to the head.

According to the Irish Times (source), the gathering was part of a scheduled motorcycle event in the coastal town. Witnesses indicated that an argument broke out before the violence erupted.

Law enforcement initially stated that the alleged attacker fled on a motorbike immediately after the confrontation. The victim was transported for medical treatment.

Days later, on Saturday, investigators located and apprehended the suspect during a search operation in Newtownabbey. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed the detention was on suspicion of attempted homicide and carrying an offensive instrument.

The individual remains in custody for questioning. Detectives continue their work on the case.
