A suspect in his seventies was questioned by detectives after an apparent arson attempt at a licensed premises in County Sligo. Officers apprehended the individual in connection with what is believed to have been a petrol bomb thrown at Connolly's establishment in the town centre.

The disturbance took place on Wednesday evening. The following day, law enforcement sealed off the vicinity for several hours to conduct forensic examinations and gather evidence.

Authorities later announced that the pensioner was freed pending further inquiries, with no charges filed at this stage. Investigators are compiling a case dossier to present to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will determine whether prosecution is warranted.

The public house reopened its doors to patrons on Thursday afternoon after officials cleared the location.
