Waterford murder accused remanded in custody as bail bid not pursued

Munster-express.ie reports that the solicitor representing a man charged with murder in Waterford city told the court he is "not in a position" to proceed with a High Court bail application on his client's behalf.

Tomas Marvanek (39), of 47 Grange Heights, Waterford city, appeared before Judge John Cheatle at Waterford District Court via video link from Cork Prison. He faces a charge of murdering Yveta Donovalova, a mother of three who was allegedly fatally assaulted at her home in Grange Heights on Monday 27 April.

A Czech interpreter was present in court to translate proceedings for the accused. Sergeant John Phelan told the court that directions on the charge remain with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) but have reached an "advanced stage."

Solicitor Ken Cunningham, acting for Marvanek, confirmed he would not be bringing a bail application before the High Court at this time and requested that his client be remanded in custody for a further two-week period.

Judge Cheatle granted the remand, ordering Marvanek to appear in court on Tuesday 2 June.
