A man in his 30s has been charged after allegedly attacking a Garda member during a patrol on Patrick Street in Cork city on Monday evening.

A man in his 30s has been brought before court following an alleged attack on a Garda member during a foot patrol in Cork city centre.
The incident happened on Monday evening on Patrick Street, where officers were conducting a high-visibility patrol, The Journal reports.
Gardaí approached and spoke to the man during the course of their patrol. According to officers, the individual subsequently turned aggressive and struck a member of the force.
The injured Garda required hospital treatment following the assault and is now off work. The man was taken to a station in Cork city and held for questioning.
He has since been formally charged in connection with the alleged incident and appeared before Cork District Court on Tuesday morning.
The investigation is continuing, a Garda spokesperson confirmed.
