Detectives in Dublin have detained a man wanted in Northern Ireland in connection with the 2020 gun killing of organised crime figure Robbie Lawlor.

Detectives from Ireland's national criminal investigation unit have taken a man into custody in Dublin under an extradition order issued by authorities in Northern Ireland.

The detention relates to the inquiry into the fatal shooting of Robbie Lawlor in Belfast on 4 April 2020. The prisoner was expected to be brought before the High Court sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday afternoon, The Irish Times reported.

Lawlor died from gunshot wounds in the Ardoyne district of north Belfast. He was well-known to police on both sides of the border for his involvement in serious criminal networks. His violent death triggered one of the largest cross-jurisdictional investigations in recent years.

The operation leading to Monday's arrest was conducted by the extradition specialists within the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, working alongside their counterparts in the Police Service of Northern Ireland. This joint effort has been ongoing since shortly after Lawlor was killed.

Officials confirmed the suspect was being held pending his court appearance. Neither his identity nor the precise accusations he faces have been made public at this stage.
