Dublin court appearance expected after city-centre beating leaves man with head trauma
A male in his 40s is set to appear before a Dublin judge following an early-morning attack that put a younger man in hospital with severe cranial injuries.
Gardaí detained the older man in connection with an incident on Hawkins Street, Dublin 2, at roughly 12:20 am on Sunday. The victim, aged in his 20s, was found with significant wounds and rushed for emergency care, according to The Irish Times.
He was first admitted to St James's Hospital, but because of the gravity of his head wound and deteriorating condition, doctors moved him to Beaumont Hospital for advanced neurological treatment. He remains in a life-threatening state.
The assault is thought to have happened shortly after the younger man was thrown out of a central Dublin establishment. Detectives are now piecing together what occurred inside the venue, focusing on how he interacted with employees and other customers before being removed. The working theory is that he received a strike to the skull.
The accused is scheduled to be brought before Dublin District Court on Monday morning to answer charges linked to the violence.
