A male in his 30s faces charges after a man in his 40s died at a property in Arderry, Drumreilly, Co Leitrim.

Man charged over fatal knife incident in rural Leitrim

A male aged in his 30s is facing prosecution following the death of another man at a dwelling in Co Leitrim.

Officers received reports of an altercation at a home in Arderry, within the Drumreilly area, after 9pm on Thursday. When they arrived, they discovered a male in his 40s who showed no signs of life.

Paramedics and other responders attempted to revive him, but he could not be saved. Detectives are working on the theory that a blade was used in the fatal assault.

The accused was taken into custody in the aftermath and has now been formally charged. According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, he will be brought before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court for a special evening sitting at 9pm tonight.
