Dublin shoplifting network: 41 adults in court, 15 juveniles diverted under Operation Táirge

41 charged in Dublin retail crime crackdown as Garda operation enters second phase

More than 40 people are expected to appear before Dún Laoghaire District Court on Tuesday in connection with an alleged organised shoplifting network, irishexaminer.com reports.

Gardaí in the DMR East Division launched Operation Táirge in early May — an intelligence-led initiative targeting retail crime and organised retail crime (ORC) across south-east Dublin. The operation involved close coordination with local retailers and business groups, and led to the establishment of a dedicated Garda unit.

As part of phase one, 41 individuals face a range of charges relating to retail theft and associated offences. A further 15 children were arrested separately, with their cases referred through the Youth Diversion Programme.

Chief Superintendent David Kennedy of DMR East said An Garda Síochána will "continue to focus on retail crime using intelligence-led policing to disrupt criminal networks, prevent thefts, and, importantly, support local retailers and businesses".

Phase two of the operation is due to begin in the coming weeks.
