A 35-year-old Dublin man has been sent forward to Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court over an alleged threat to kill a garda on New Year's Day.

A 35-year-old man charged with threatening to kill a member of An Garda Síochána is to face trial at Portlaoise Criminal Circuit Court, laois-nationalist.ie reports.

Michael Doyle, of Amiens Street, Dublin 1, was served with a book of evidence at last week's sitting of Portlaoise District Court by Garda Sgt Jason Hughes.

Doyle faces charges of threatening to kill or cause serious injury to a garda and of obstructing gardaí at Abbeyleix Garda Station on 1 January.

Judge Susan Fay sent the case forward to the 23 June sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court. She advised Doyle that he must notify the prosecution within 14 days should he intend to rely on an alibi as part of his defence.
