Woman discovered dead at Kerry residence in suspected homicide
A woman was found dead at her property on Muckross Road in Kerry on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a Garda probe into suspected fatal violence.
The deceased has been identified locally as Jamey Carney. A family member discovered her at the dwelling and raised the alarm. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the location.
Investigators believe she died after force was used against her. The probe is continuing.
The case comes amid renewed concern about violence against women in Ireland. Sarah Benson, chief executive of Women's Aid, told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that 82 women have died through violence since 2020 — 52 in the Republic and 30 in Northern Ireland. She described the situation as a "real and urgent problem."
At least seven women have died in violent circumstances in Ireland so far this year, according to the organisation's figures.
