Officers in the capital have taken a teenager into custody amid an ongoing murder inquiry.

The youth, believed to be roughly 15 years old, was picked up as part of the probe into how Qayyum Balogun lost his life. The 21-year-old was discovered with grave injuries on Clarendon Street shortly after 3am on Monday. He was transported to St James's Hospital, where medics were unable to save him.

According to The Journal, the deceased had roots in Nigeria and had made his home in County Louth. He was enrolled in a computing degree at Maynooth University. On the night he died, he had gone to see Nigerian musician Famous Pluto perform at a venue on Grafton Street.

The detained minor is being questioned at a Dublin station. A spokesperson for the force said the case is still being actively pursued.

Investigators are poring over footage from nearby cameras, gathering accounts from people who saw what happened, and examining physical evidence. A knife found not far from the location is undergoing analysis.

Prior apprehensions have already taken place. A male aged in his twenties faced a judge, answering accusations of violent disorder and assault causing harm related to the episode plus two other people who were hurt. Bail was approved. Separately, a female aged in her twenties was let go without prosecution after being taken in on Wednesday.

Further arrests have not been ruled out.
