A man in his twenties has been taken into custody after a young woman was injured during an alleged assault in County Cork on Monday evening.

Officers from An Garda Síochána were called to Churchyard Lane in Ballinlough, a residential suburb on the south side of Cork city, following reports of an incident. Emergency services attended the scene and the injured woman was transported to hospital for treatment.

Gardaí have described her injuries as non-life-threatening. The suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged assault and was being held at a garda station in Cork city for questioning under the relevant legislation.
