St James Builder Denies Threatening to Kill Colleague with Blade
A labourer in Montego Bay has denied accusations that he menaced a fellow worker with a knife and vowed to have him murdered during a jobsite quarrel in St James.
Jordan Lightbody, who works in construction, appeared in court before magistrate Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton last Wednesday to face counts of common-law assault and making threats. He rejected both allegations.
The prosecution says the episode unfolded shortly before 10:00 am on May 31. The victim was labouring when words escalated into a fierce dispute with Lightbody. While the complainant stood atop a ladder, Lightbody allegedly produced a knife, held it to the man's left torso, and warned he would slash him open and arrange for gunmen to finish him off.
He is also said to have claimed ties to people in the Lilliput district, suggesting the complainant could be riddled with bullets while living there. The victim reportedly stepped back, dared Lightbody to carry out his plans, and stated he was ready for whatever came.
Authorities were alerted, and Lightbody was later taken into custody and charged.
At the hearing, the complainant declined the option of settling the matter through mediation. Court staff noted the state's dossier was complete.
Fairclough-Hylton fixed the trial for September 14 and allowed Lightbody to remain on bail until then.
