Labourer Denies Threatening to Stab and Shoot Co-Worker in St James
A building site employee in Montego Bay has rejected claims that he menaced a colleague with a blade and promised to arrange his murder during a workplace quarrel.
Jordan Lightbody stood before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton last Wednesday facing counts of common-law assault and making threats. He entered not-guilty pleas to each charge.
The prosecution says the episode unfolded shortly before 9:45 am on May 31. The alleged victim was reportedly perched on a ladder when Lightbody approached him, produced a knife, and held it to the man's left torso. He then supposedly declared he would slash the worker open and have others gun him down.
The disagreement apparently intensified, with Lightbody also telling the man he knew people in the Lilliput district and that the complainant risked being fired upon while living there. The colleague eventually stepped away, daring Lightbody to carry out his warnings and insisting he was ready for any confrontation.
Authorities were later informed, and officers took Lightbody into custody before charging him.
At the hearing, the complainant made clear he did not wish to pursue mediation. Court staff also noted that the state's file was complete and ready for trial.
Judge Fairclough-Hylton fixed the hearing for September 14 and allowed the accused to remain on bail until then.
