Law enforcement officers have detained a man following a deadly assault in Stevenson Town, St Elizabeth, in which his brother lost his life and two other family members sustained injuries.

The fatal victim was 21-year-old Travis Williams, who made his living as a construction worker in the Southfield community. The deadly confrontation unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, sometime past 1 a.m.

Officers believe the suspect used a sharp weapon against his own relatives during the episode. Paramedics rushed the wounded mother and additional sibling to receive medical care, though no updates on their wellbeing have been released.

The Black River Criminal Investigation Branch has taken charge of the inquiry. The detained individual remains under lockup while detectives seek to understand the motive behind the bloodshed.

Violent crime has surged sharply in the parish this year. Figures cited by the Jamaica Gleaner indicate that by June 7, St Elizabeth had already seen 13 killings—more than double the count from the equivalent timeframe in 2024, reflecting a spike of roughly 117 per cent.
