A 17-year-old faces multiple firearm charges after allegedly shooting a man and firing at a police officer in Oracabessa, St Mary. He was later treated for gunshot wounds.

Teen Charged After Oracabessa Shooting Spree

A 17-year-old boy is facing eleven charges following a shooting incident in Oracabessa, St Mary, in which a man was wounded and an off-duty police officer was fired upon, jamaica-star.com reports.

According to the Port Maria Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), the incident began at around 10:30 pm when the teen went to the home of a man with whom he had an ongoing dispute. An argument broke out, escalating into a physical confrontation, during which the teen allegedly drew a firearm from his waistband and shot the man in the arm.

An off-duty policeman who intervened to calm the situation was then allegedly targeted by the teen, who pointed the weapon at the officer and discharged several rounds in his direction. Fearing for his life, the officer returned fire.

The teen subsequently fled the scene in a Toyota Probox, allegedly forcing the driver at gunpoint to transport him to another location. He later presented at hospital with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was treated before being released into police custody.

Following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney, the teen was charged with wounding with intent with the use of a firearm (two counts), shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, using a firearm to commit a first schedule offence, unlawful detention, assault at common law (two counts), and being a part of a criminal organisation.
