48-Hour Curfew in Greenvale, Manchester After Man Shot in Face

A 48-hour nightly curfew has been imposed across Greenvale in Manchester after a man was shot in the face while sitting in his car on Saturday.

Curfew Imposed in Greenvale After Saturday Shooting

A 48-hour curfew is now in effect across the Greenvale community in Manchester, the Jamaica Observer reports, following a shooting on Saturday in which a man was struck in the face.

The curfew, which covers both Top Greenvale and Lower Greenvale, began at 6:00 pm on Monday and runs through 6:00 pm on Wednesday. Operations Officer for Manchester Deputy Superintendent Valdin Amos confirmed the details.

The victim was reportedly sitting in his car in a section of Greenvale known locally as Texas when an armed assailant attacked him. He drove himself to hospital and has since been admitted for treatment.

Amos noted that the shooting comes despite active social intervention efforts in the area, including an ongoing football tournament. "Crime has been down in the community. We have a football tournament going on. Parties have been allowed to happen. This incident is the first of its kind in the last two to three years," he said.

Amos added that police intend to continue those intervention programmes in Greenvale once the curfew period concludes.
