Mandeville Man Charged After Two Killed in Taxi Shooting

A 32-year-old Manchester man has been charged with double murder following a shooting on Caledonia main road in Mandeville on the evening of Saturday, July 18, the Jamaica Observer reports.

Ramalio Miles of Bonnie View Terrace, Melrose Mews, Manchester, was formally charged after police investigations led to his arrest and a positive identification during a parade on Saturday, July 25.

The victims have been identified as Deneekia Pounall, 24, of Heartease district, Mandeville, and Sadefa Henry, 21, a deliveryman of Marvel Close, Greenvale, Mandeville. Both sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at hospital.

According to investigators, Miles was travelling in a taxi alongside Pounall and Henry at around 7:30 pm when he asked to be let out of the vehicle. Several gunshots were heard shortly after he stepped out. The two remaining passengers were found wounded inside.

In addition to two counts of murder, Miles faces four counts of shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.

Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis, commanding officer of the Manchester Division, said police are working assiduously to reduce violent crime in the parish.
