Fatal Stabbing of 18-Year-Old During Last Lap Celebrations in Basseterre

An 18-year-old man died from a stab wound to the chest during Last Lap festivities near Independence Square on the night of Friday, January 2, 2026, thestkittsnevisobserver.com reports.

Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) responded to reports of a stabbing between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. On arrival, they found Kaden Hanley of Shadwell Estate with a stab wound to the chest.

Members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) transported Hanley to the Joseph N. France General Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival at approximately 9:00 p.m., despite medical efforts.

The Crime Scene Unit secured and processed the area while investigators began gathering evidence. Police have confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to establish the precise cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing. The RSCNPF has urged anyone who witnessed the incident or holds relevant information to contact the nearest police station. Tip-offs can also be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 707.
