The St Kitts and Nevis government on Monday moved to distance the twin-island federation from social media reports connecting Tyler Robinson — the Utah State University student arrested in the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk — to the Caribbean nation, jamaicaobserver.com reports.

Robinson was taken into custody some 33 hours after Kirk, 31, was shot dead in Orem last Wednesday. Kirk had been speaking at an open-air event at Utah Valley University, organised by Turning Point USA, the organisation he co-founded, when a single bullet struck him in the neck. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has said Robinson "is not cooperating" with US authorities.

In a formal statement, the St Kitts and Nevis government said it wished to "address reports suggesting that the suspect in the recent tragic incident at Utah State University, or his parents, visited our federation." Official records, it said, show "no evidence that neither the individual nor his family entered St Kitts and Nevis." The government added it remains "open to reviewing any credible information to the contrary, as accuracy and truth are paramount."

The statement also addressed firearms access, clarifying that in the federation shooting ranges are "tightly regulated and permitted only to individuals holding a firearm license issued in St Kitts and Nevis, under police authorisation and strict supervision." Those without such a licence are prohibited from access.

The government said it "takes border security very seriously and continues to uphold strict measures to ensure the safety of all who live in and visit our country."

Nationals were urged to "act responsibly in sharing information and to help protect the reputation of our beloved country by ensuring that only verified facts are circulated." Citizens and residents were directed to rely on official government sources for updates.
