A jury has delivered a guilty verdict against a 34-year-old man for rape and assault in the Cayman Islands, as reported by Cayman News Service.

Adrian George Gordon was convicted after jurors weighed evidence from a trial held this past week. Prosecutors demonstrated that Gordon had offered a woman transportation from a George Town drinking establishment in June of last year. Upon arrival at her dwelling, he accompanied her to the entrance and asked for water. When she declined his physical advances, he responded with violence, grabbing her by the hair and forcing himself on her sexually.

The victim was later found hurt and covered in a bedsheet by concerned individuals who dialed emergency services. Law enforcement officers apprehended Gordon at the scene. While forensic material was gathered, he would not consent to giving a blood sample.

During an interrogation, Gordon told investigators he had handed over $300 to a female at the bar in exchange for intimacy but could not recollect most of what transpired afterward. He asserted that someone had drugged him and stolen his money. The prosecution countered that the survivor's narrative stayed uniform and was backed by other proof, while Gordon's supposed forgetfulness seemed to serve his interests.

The jury reached its decision by a five-to-two majority. The defendant remains in jail awaiting punishment, with the sentencing date set for October pending completion of multiple court-ordered evaluations.
