The RCIPS has logged a noticeable jump in stolen vehicle cases this month, with eight complaints filed during the week ending 19 June. Incidents have mainly hit George Town and Bodden Town, plus a few in West Bay.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service says vehicle theft reports have risen sharply this month, with eight cases recorded in the seven days up to 19 June. The bulk of these crimes happened in George Town and Bodden Town, though West Bay also saw a handful.

Officers say the thefts largely took place before dawn. In several instances, the culprits managed to get inside even though drivers insisted they had locked their cars, suggesting the use of outside techniques to gain entry.

Hondas built between the late 1990s and early 2000s made up most of the stolen vehicles, yet other manufacturers and models were also taken. Law enforcement has retrieved two of the missing cars, while the rest are still unaccounted for.

Authorities are urging motorists to leave their vehicles in brightly lit, open areas and to double-check that doors are locked. They also point to steering-wheel locks and surveillance cameras as useful tools for cutting the risk of theft and other offences.

Anyone who may know something about a stolen car is asked to ring 911. Tips can also be passed on anonymously through the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the force’s own website, the Cayman Crime Stoppers site, or its dedicated app.
