Police in the Cayman Islands report a spike in stolen vehicle cases this month, with eight thefts recorded in a single week. Most incidents have taken place in George Town and Bodden Town.

Authorities in the Cayman Islands say reports of stolen vehicles have risen sharply this month, with eight cases filed during the week ending 19 June.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), the majority of these thefts happened in George Town and Bodden Town, though some were also reported in West Bay. Most of the incidents occurred during the early morning hours.

Police noted that in several cases, suspects managed to enter vehicles even though owners had locked them. "In some incidents, the suspects appear to have gained access to the vehicles using external methods, as the vehicles were reported to be secured by the owners," the RCIPS stated.

Most of the stolen vehicles were Honda models manufactured in the late 1990s and early 2000s, though other makes and models were also taken. Officers have recovered two of the stolen vehicles, while several others are still missing.

The RCIPS has urged residents to protect their vehicles by parking in well-lit, visible areas and ensuring cars are properly secured when left unattended. The force also recommended that owners use wheel-locking devices and install CCTV cameras to help deter crime.
