Seven People Detained in Cayman Drug Sweeps Over Weekend
Law enforcement on the islands took seven people into custody over the course of Friday and Saturday on suspicion of narcotics violations, according to Cayman News Service.
The series of actions began around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 10 July, when a car was pulled over in the heart of George Town. A check of the vehicle and the four people inside yielded what officers believe to be ganja. All four were placed under arrest and transported to a police station.
Investigators then moved to a house in Windsor Park to carry out a search. When they got there, they recognized a male who had an outstanding warrant tied to an assault matter. He was taken into custody, and a look through his home turned up what is thought to be cocaine. He was then also booked on fresh narcotics counts.
A wider search of the initial George Town location produced more suspected ganja, equipment linked to drug use, and a firearm that police suspect may be illegal. So far, no one has been charged in relation to that weapon.
The following day, Saturday, 11 July, a team executed a drug-law search at a home in West Bay. They discovered additional suspected ganja and arrested the two individuals who were there at the time.
Everything collected has been logged for further inquiry, and the cases remain active.
Authorities emphasized that the man picked up on the assault warrant is not Michael Gollab, who is still being sought over an attempted homicide. Members of the public who know where Gollab might be are asked to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or reach out anonymously through the RCIPS tip line at 949-7777.
