A 16-year-old lost his life following a knife assault on Darling Road, Castries, during the early morning hours of January 3, 2026, as reported by The Voice St. Lucia.
Law enforcement personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department were alerted to the incident shortly before 1:00 a.m. By the time responders arrived, the wounded youth — identified as Omar Joseph, a resident of Marisule in Gros Islet — had already been driven by private means to the Owen King European Hospital. Physicians there were unable to save him and certified his death.
The probe into the killing continued for more than a month. In the pre-dawn hours of February 11, officers assigned to the Tactical Response Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department located and apprehended an individual believed to be connected to the crime.
On February 12, Sherneil Theophile, aged 21 and from Corinth, Gros Islet — who also goes by the aliases "Unts" or "Ants" — appeared at the First District Court. Judicial authorities ordered him held at the Bordelais Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
