Daphne Memorial in Valletta Cleared Again — Occupy Justice Seeks Footage

Lovin Malta reports that Occupy Justice Malta has appealed to the public for photographs and video footage after the Daphne Caruana Galizia memorial at the Great Siege Monument in Valletta was cleared once more.

In a Facebook post published on Wednesday, the activist group confirmed that a police report had already been filed in connection with the incident. "Of course we made a police report about it," Occupy Justice wrote, noting that the memorial had since been restored.

The group is urging anyone who witnessed the removal, or who captured it on camera, to come forward and share material with either activists or police.

The latest incident follows footage that emerged earlier this week showing a man removing portraits of the murdered journalist from the memorial on Monday afternoon — the same day Labour supporters gathered in Valletta to mark the party's general election victory. Photographs from the memorial were subsequently found torn up in a nearby rubbish bin.

Occupy Justice suggested that those responsible appeared to be growing bolder, drawing a contrast with earlier acts of vandalism that had taken place under the cover of darkness.

The memorial is dedicated to Caruana Galizia, who was killed in a car bomb attack in 2017. Over the years the site has been repeatedly targeted, with flowers, candles, banners and photographs regularly removed or damaged.

The group reiterated its long-standing position on the protest site. "Meanwhile, the protest remains there until justice is served," Occupy Justice stated.
