Police in Turks and Caicos have confirmed the identity of a decomposing body found near the Grace Bay area as Brian Patrick Tarrence, 52, of Manhattan, abc7ny.com reports. An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma, and authorities do not suspect foul play.

Tarrence vanished on June 25 while on vacation with his wife Maria. The couple had left their Manhattan home for what was planned as a seven-day, one-year anniversary celebration. When Maria woke up that morning and could not find her husband, she filed a missing person report.

The last known image of Tarrence was captured by security cameras outside the Paradise Inn villa where the couple were staying, at approximately 3:40 a.m. on June 25. He appeared alone. His body was recovered on July 5 in a roughly five-foot-deep roadside ditch near the hotel.

The Tarrence family hired private investigator Carl DeFazio, a former NYPD officer, to assist with the initial search. DeFazio worked alongside the Turks and Caicos Police Force throughout the investigation.

According to DeFazio, the couple had gone on a boat trip the day before Tarrence disappeared, and Maria had noted her husband seemed off. "The day that he did disappear, he was having some, I would say mental issues," DeFazio said. "He was not under doctors' care, he was not under any kind of medication that I'm aware of that was shared with me, but he was acting incoherent, he wasn't acting the same as he was and the wife was quite concerned with that."

Investigators are continuing to work to determine the precise cause of death.
