Seven police officers detained over three Glock pistols missing from Port of Spain station

Three Glock pistols, three magazines and 45 rounds of 9mm ammunition have gone missing from the Central Police Station in Port of Spain, trinidadexpress.com reports, with seven officers now detained in connection with the disappearance.

Among those held are an acting sergeant, two acting corporals and four constables. Two of the seven are women officers — one holding the rank of acting corporal, the other a police constable. All were on duty at the station during the period the weapons were lodged there.

Police sources confirmed that the homes of all seven officers were searched between Wednesday and Thursday, and that the missing firearms and ammunition remained unaccounted for as of last night. The officers are being held at various police stations across the Port of Spain Division and the East-West Corridor.

The weapons had been lodged at the station by Port of Spain Municipal Police officers for safekeeping on August 10. They were deposited at approximately 2.47 p.m.; a check conducted around 3.40 a.m. the following day revealed that the items were no longer present. An investigation was launched immediately.

Sources told the Express that the detained officers have denied any knowledge of the missing weapons and ammunition. All have since sought legal counsel.
