A drive-by shooting on Duncan Street, Port of Spain, left one man dead and five injured on Saturday night, the second such attack in under 24 hours.

A drive-by shooting on Duncan Street in Port of Spain on Saturday night killed one man and wounded five others, newsday.co.tt reports. The attack came less than 24 hours after a separate drive-by on St Paul Street claimed two lives and sent two more to hospital.

Christian Sansavoir, of Duncan Street, was killed in the latest incident. The five injured — Anton Olliveire, Mathias Kingsale, Shane Duncan, Robert Inglebert and Jaheim Brown — were transported to the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The vehicle used in the attack, a white Nissan X-Trail, was found abandoned on St Paul Street shortly afterwards. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service attributed the escalating violence to an ongoing gang war.

Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher had issued a warning to criminals on Friday. "Be prepared to face the consequences," she said, adding that the TTPS remains focused on meeting targets set for crime reduction. "Criminals have made their intentions clear and so have we — if you intend to be on the wrong side of the law, know that we are coming after you. The question is not if, but when we will get you."

Harewood-Christopher said the TTPS will sustain its operations through the Christmas period and into the New Year, with various units conducting strategic intelligence-led exercises. "We will maintain the intensity of our operations to protect our young people and to give all citizens the confidence and assurance that we are working to ensure their safety and security."

Head of the Homicide Bureau Senior Superintendent Rishi Singh declined to comment on either shooting when contacted by newsday.co.tt.
