A major narcotics discovery occurred Monday morning at the Port of Port of Spain, where officers uncovered high-grade cannabis stashed inside shipping barrels originating from the United States.

Members of the Special Investigations Unit and the National Operations Task Force inspected the port's designated storage zone for unlawful goods. There, they came across two barrels. Within one, packages of marijuana lay concealed beneath layers of clothing.

The confiscated substance tipped the scales at roughly 4.605 kilograms, with an estimated market worth of $400,000. The shipment had arrived from Fort Myers, Florida, and was still pending clearance when intercepted.

Senior commanders including DCP Suzette Martin and ACP Collis Hazel orchestrated the operation, while acting Superintendent Sanana and acting Inspector Petti from the NOTF supervised on the ground.

Journalists from the Trinidad Guardian who arrived at the port around midday saw three police vehicles departing the facility as the exercise wrapped up. No individual has yet been detained in relation to the seizure.
