A late-night sweep in Couva turned up a loaded pistol, holster, and official police documents concealed in vegetation near a car park on Toolsie Street.

Just before 10:40 pm on June 30, officers from the CID/CRO Special Operations Unit acted on a tip and searched the area. They spotted a pouch tucked away in bushes close to the parking spot.

Inside, they found a Glock 19 Gen 4 handgun fitted with a magazine holding fifteen rounds. The pouch also contained a Kydex holster, a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service badge and ID card, and a Firearm User's Licence booklet.

Crime Scene Investigators processed the site, and everything was seized. The Couva Criminal Investigations Department is now looking into how the firearm and police items wound up in the hiding spot.

Senior Superintendent Pariman headed the operation, while Acting Sergeant Castillo supervised. Both underlined that using intelligence to guide raids is key to clamping down on unlawful weapons and linked criminality.

The national police force renewed its appeal for citizens to report any knowledge of illegal guns or dubious activity. People can reach out to the Couva CID, visit their local station, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS.
