A hidden handgun, bullets, and official police equipment were recovered by CID officers during a late-night anti-crime sweep near a car park on Toolsie Street in Couva.

A handgun, live rounds, and official law-enforcement equipment were recovered late on Tuesday night when officers from the CID/CRO Special Operations Unit carried out an anti-crime sweep in Couva.

The Trinidad Guardian reports that the raid began around 10:40 p.m. on June 30, after the unit received intelligence pointing to a car park off Toolsie Street. In nearby bushes, officers located a pouch that had been stashed out of sight.

Inside the pouch was a Glock 19 Gen 4 handgun loaded with a magazine containing fifteen bullets. Also inside were a Kydex holster, a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service ID card and badge, plus a Firearm User's Licence booklet.

Specialists from the Crime Scene Investigation team examined the area, and every item found was taken away for further examination. Detectives at the Couva Criminal Investigations Department are now trying to establish how police property ended up alongside the weapon.

Senior Superintendent Pariman directed the operation, with Acting Sergeant Castillo overseeing it on the ground. Both men underlined that tip-off-based raids remain a key tactic in the fight against illegal guns.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service again asked the public to pass on any knowledge of unlawful firearms or suspicious conduct. Information can be given directly to the Couva CID, to any local station, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 800-TIPS (8477).
