Gunfire erupted near Park and Piccadilly Streets in the capital, leaving one man wounded and more than ten shell casings scattered at the scene.

A male was wounded by gunfire close to the junction of Park and Piccadilly Streets in Port of Spain during Thursday morning.

Paramedics conveyed the casualty to the Port of Spain General Hospital to receive medical care. Authorities did not immediately release information regarding the severity of his injuries.

When reporters from the Trinidad Guardian arrived at the location, they found a crowd of bystanders watching the proceedings. Forensic officers were already at work gathering material from the scene.

Images from the area indicated that police retrieved over ten discharged cartridge cases. Detectives are carrying on with their probe into what transpired.
